RYŌ
An extendable table, designed for Molteni & C.
Ryō, the name comes from an archetypical element in Japanese landscape, the Ryōbi Torii Gate. The imperviousness and solitariness of the structure are the inspiration behind the table. Ryō is an extendable table, a product for Molteni & C. It is designed to be practical and sophisticated, with an added touch of nature and an air of ""lightness"". The mechanism of the table allows it to transform its size, from a six-seater to an eight-seaters, in an easy and effortless way. With the reference of the current extendable table in Molteni, the Filigree table, to have lightness tangibly, weightlessness visually and effortless practically, was the tenet of Ryo. The organic shape legs are made with bended textured plywoods, that juxtapose with the rectangular, slim and smooth top. It opens and closes by simultaneous slide of tops. The table is perceived as a product that is able to stand in solitary in a space.
