MIKIYA KOBAYASHI STUDIO PRESENTS "PLAYSCAPE", A PLAYGROUND INSTALLATION

PLAYSCAPE 2019 (Milan Design Week)

In occasion of the 10th anniversary of collaboration with Karimoku Furniture, Mikiya Kobayashi Studio brings a playful and artistic installation to the Brera District in Milan. With PLAYSCAPE, Mikiya proposes a new type of furniture that provides the function of playground equipment for daily life. The elements are manufactured by Karimoku Furniture, which produces one of the highest quality wooden furniture in the world, using its own technique, experience and research. Mikiya Kobayashi creates a place to enjoy for adults and children where he could be free to design beautiful shapes, almost as functional sculptures, without having to think too much about production cost, feasibility and sales aspects which normally are part of the mass production projects.

PLAYSCAPE 2018 (Taiyou No Shita, Koishikawa, Tokyo)

Mikiya Kobayashi creates a place to enjoy for adults and children in return for the town, customers and people who have hosted his store Taiyou no Shita in Koishikawa. Supported by Karimoku Furniture and in collaboration with Kvadrat Japan, the exhibition reveals the desire of Mikiya to do a playground project, where he could be free to design beautiful shapes, almost as functional sculptures, without having to think too much about production cost, feasibility and sales aspects which normally are part of the mass production projects.
