Designers Alessandro La Spada
Alessandro La Spada is one of the most eclectic and daring personalities on the Italian interior design scene, with frequent forays into sectors that demand a high level of creativity: from luxury to lighting, leather goods to custom motorcycles, objects to visuals. Curious and experimental by nature, attracted to contaminations of art, design and traditional crafts, he has extensive experience with historic furniture brands, in which his long-term relationship with Gruppo IPE for the Visionnaire collections stands out.
Born in Reggio Calabria to Sicilian parents, Alessandro explored his passion for drawing since childhood, revealing exceptional creative talent and skill. After focusing on art in school, he moved to Milan to complete his studies of Interior Design.
He learned the secrets of cabinetmaking and techniques of metalworking from the master craftsmen of Brianza, applying his knowledge in his first collection of furnishings shown at the Salone del Mobile in 2000. The event in Milan immediately placed him in the ranks of the finest storytellers of Italian style in the world, opening the way for a career that has been filled with success, awards and honors.
Alessandro has always been fascinated by the emotional aspect of objects and by intense research on materials seen as a form of introspective investigation. His projects share a red thread in which he concentrates impressions of dreams, attention to detail, luxury and functional experimentation. He likes to call himself an autodidact artist with a craftsman’s attitude, rather than a designer, though he has taught furniture design for some time at the Interior Design Institute IDI’AC and conducted workshops at Domus Academy.
